Surfside Colony
is a community of 200 homes
on the water front in Surfside
California. It is governed by
a Home Owners Association
(HOA) with strict guidelines
for the exterior of the community.
Sunrise was selected to renovate
the entire properties landscape
and hardscape features including
the South entry gate façade.
After complete demolition and
removal of all the old plant
material, irrigation and existing
walls and planters we
provided concept designs for
HOA approval. Once the design
was approved, we developed working
drawings and submitted plans
to the city for approval. We
seamlessly managed the entire
process and were able to begin
construction on time without
any delays.
Surfside
Colony Entrance Gates and Landscape
Surfside Palapa and Grass Area
Working closely with the homeowners,
we developed a nice coastal
feel to the new design that
would work well with the Water
Tower and close proximity to
the beach. We incorporated native
and tropical vegetation with
low water requirements and installed
over 3 miles of drip irrigation
to accommodate it.
The entry on the South end
of the property involved a new
custom security gate, new planters,
pavers and lighting. We personally
selected all the trees and plant
material to make sure it was
the best for this project. We
are currently working on the
design for a new entry on the
North side of the property with
a guard house, security gate,
lighting and new landscaping.
Drainage has been a major issue
at this community since it was
built. Every major rain, the
downstairs of the frontage houses
would flood. We removed the
existing 10ft French drain system
and installed new state of the
art dry well chambers to resolve
the problem. Read more about
this project here.
We currently maintain the landscape
and trees at Surfside Colony.
We even hang their Christmas
lights for them in the winter!

Command and Control Center
The
Los Angeles Fire Department
Command and Control Center is
main center for all 911 fire
operations in Los Angeles. Sunrise
has worked the Los Angeles Fire
Department and several other
government agencies for many
years. The Command and Control
Center covers over 10 acres
of land and was a very large
landscape project. Sunrise was
selected for the project due
to our competitive bid, past
work history with LA Fire Department,
excellent safety record and
our reputation of quality workmanship.
Our extensive experience with
large city, county and federal
contracts for landscape allow
to meet all the requirements
necessary for prevailing wage,
insurance, bonding and licensing.
The property was prepared for
the new landscape by removing
several large trees. and the
installation phase of the project
involved new trees, sod installation,
drainage/irrigation & weed
abatement for fire regulations
(of course). We have maintained
this property for years and
continue to provide complete
landscape renovation annually.

Los
Angeles Fire Stations
Sunrise has installed new landscape
and irrigation at 12 Los Angeles
Fire Stations and the new Fire
Training Center. Each project
was unique but encompassed demo/removal
of existing landscape and hardscape
followed with a conceptual design
for approval. We installed new
drainage, irrigation and control
systems, new trees and plant
materials at every station.
The Fire Training Center had
a unique water requirement that
allowed us to install several
thousand square feet of synthetic
sod complemented with native
plant species that also require
little or no water.
Rancho Santa Gertrudis School
The Rancho Santa Gertrudis athletic field project began with removal of the entire field area including asphalt, irrigation, drainage and other features. Upon completion, the land graded and prepared for installation of the new field. The fields were covered with Class-A topsoil and hydro-seeded with Marathon high quality seed. We installed several large trees (72” box with a planted height of 20+ feet), new asphalt, playground equipment and water fountains with French drains. Sunrise managed the entire permitting process, provided all necessary certifications, prevailing wage requirements and completed the project ahead of schedule by almost two weeks.
Rancho-Gertrudus
Hoag Hospital, Marilyn Herbert Pavilion
The
Marilyn Herbert Pavilion project began
with a complete demo of the site prior
to construction. The demo involved
removal of all plant materials and
existing irrigation and foreign materials
in the soil.
.
We worked under the supervision of
the lead construction contractor on
the project. We were provided approved
landscape and irrigation design drawings
and everything was performed to these
specifications.
Extensive
irrigation and drainage was installed
to support a variety of plant materials
defined by the design and is controlled
by a commercial grade controller in
unison with other controllers on the
facility. Sunrise provided 90 days of
support on the project and trained Hoag
Facility personnel to continue ongoing
maintenance.
